TRICHLOROACETIC ACID FACIAL PEELS (TCA)
TCA Facial peels are used to give a fresh new layer of even-textured and coloured skin by an even, controlled shedding of several layers of damaged skin cells.
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) can improve blotchy pigmentation, freckled, sun damaged skin with fine wrinkles. It can improve some types of acne scars. It leaves skin of natural colour and texture.
One or several layers of medication are applied to your skin to create a controlled chemical burn. It may sting and burn when applied but this usually stops within 2 or 3 minutes. There is no more discomfort during the rest of the time you are peeling, although it may itch. The skin darkens, feels tighter, then cracks and peels off. This leaves you with a new fresh layer of skin without scabs, bleeding, or bandages.
You can be normally active, except for things that will make you perspire heavily. You can go to work during peeling but you must stay out of the sun.
The peel takes 5 or 6 days on average to complete. Heavily sun-damaged and wrinkled skin, may take 8 or 10 days with deeper peels. Treatment creams are used during peeling.
Two peels are needed for best results in most people. Sometimes multiple peels are required, such as with excessive pigmentation from pregnancy or birth control pills.
